gratitude

This has been a rough week. Things that wouldn't normally "get to me" have really gotten me down. It seems like almost every area of my life is spinning out of control and I can't get a grip. When life gets like this, I try to pick myself up by reading something uplifitng or doing something I really enjoy. Today I got to do both. My sister listened to me babble on and on about my trouble and we went to lunch. (something I really enjoy!) When I got home, I was reading on the church website and found this:

An Attitude of Gratitude:
"This is a wonderful time to be living here on earth. Our opportunities are limitless. While there are some things wrong in the world today, there are many things right, such as teachers who teach, ministers who minister, marriages that make it, parents who sacrifice, and friends who help.
"We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude. If ingratitude be numbered among the serious sins, then gratitude takes its place among the noblest of virtues"
(Thomas S. Monson, "An Attitude of Gratitude," Ensign, May 1992, 54).

I am hoping that focusing on the things that are right and good in my life will help to pull me out of this slump and help me to realize the many things that I have been blessed with. I even bought a cute little journal at the bookstore and I have set a goal to write about 3 things everyday that I am grateful for. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for me - please post!

oh my gosh...i have been feeling the exact same way!! Its cold and snowing and icy...i have found that the best thing to do is serve others. I realize that my problems are that big of a deal and i help others. Also, i have a cute journal too that I write down at least one tender mercy each day. Then i can look back and see how the lord has blessed me. Feel better and I hope you get over your slump

I loved your post - we all feel like at times don't we? I loved the quote by Pres.Monson I have been reading in the BofM lately about growth during times of adversity and using the "downs" in our lives as opportunities. If I can find a long enough quiet moment I may send you an email sharing some of what I have learned the last few weeks.

Keep smiling your beautiful smile!

The funniest part about yesterday afternoon was the fact that we were both giving each other grand advice that we didn't even believe in our own situations. I hope your gratitude journal gives you the peace you need right now. I need to start one, too. I'm always up for lunch and my ear is always open!

Jodi, And I thank you for your support during my time of discouragment. Thank you for the book and journal that you gave me. I went to a convention with my sisters, my parents are home from Arizona and I have been able to talk with them about my problem. Needless to say, we are both blessed to have family to share with and vent to. Hope things are looking up for you. I will talk to you when the kids are back in school.
