close call

We had a close call this weekend. Kamryn got a reading lamp from her Grandpa & Grandma Wilson for Christmas. She has LOVED having this reading lamp and has used it every night. Saturday afternoon, Coleman and Lexi were using the reading lamp as a spotlight and playing around on Kamryns bed. When the spotlight game got old, they moved on to something else but forgot to turn off the lamp. Jeff and Rylee were working in the other room on Rylee's birthday bedroom makeover (pictures coming soon!) and Jeff got a whiff of something burning. He opened the door to Kamryn's room and saw smoke coming from the top bunk. The lamp had been left on and set on top of her cozy (that her Grandma Dahl made for her) and had started burning. It burned a hole through the cozy, through her bedspread, through her blanket, through her sheets and started to burn her mattress. If Jeff had not come in right then, the whole mattress would have started on fire and then who knows! SCARY! My house could have started on fire. A close call and a good reminder to always know what your 4 year old is doing!

Aye yi yi! That is scary! Glad no fire got going but sad about the sheets and cozy. I have a four year old, in fact I think I'll go see what she's up to. Can't wait to see pics of the room make over!
Oh, and I love the quote from the "Attitude of Gratitude". A great reminder for us all.

That kind of happened to me once. I put a little votive candle next to my bed one night and fell asleep and my pillow fell on it and started this big fire. I woke up to a bunch of smoke in my room. The funny part is that I tried to hide it from my parents-haha. We ended up having to get going through insurance to fix all the damage that I did. It is very scarey but blessed.
