I check my caller ID and see that it's the Elementary school. I wonder what it is that my child forgot or maybe an appointment that I forgot about. All I hear on the other end is a small raspy voice saying "Mom, can I come home?" It was Kamryn - I asked her what was wrong and she told me that the 4th graders had been outside practicing the 200 meter for track & field day and she stopped breathing. She was crying and I could tell she was in a lot of pain. I went and got her from the school and she seemed okay. I sent her inside to lay on my bed and watch cartoons for a while until she felt back to normal. Within one hour, she was sobbing and her breathing was so shallow. I laid her on my bed and started a breathing treatment... and finally some relief!
Kamryn was diagnosed with asthma at 7 months old. We have had a nebulizer at our house for the past 8 years but have rarely needed it. I was hoping she had "outgrown" it and could go without it, but I guess I was wrong! I am grateful for modern medicine and the ability to treat her at our home ~ but I wish she didn't have it at all! It breaks my heart to see her in so much pain and not being able to breathe. I am also grateful that it is just asthma and not something that we couldn't treat - I'm not sure how parents live through that!
We spent the evening resting in between two different treatments and watching movies on my bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Hope you are feeling better soon Kamryn.
Poor girly girl. I'm so sorry she has that struggle. On the bright side, no more running! O.k. That doesn't make it any better.
