Oh, Canada! Oh, Kamryn!

Oh, Canada...Our home and native land!

July 1st is right around the corner and I am missing Raymond...a small town in Southern Alberta, Canada. For those of you that don't know, July 1st is Canada Day. (similar to our 4th of July) Our family used to make the 12 hour drive by van or station wagon almost every year to visit my grandparents and participate in the festivities. I loved pulling into the driveway and seeing the baby chicks or bunnies that Grandpa got for us. I loved the way the screen door would slam and the way the basement was always so cold and musty. I loved that Grandma would have fruit salad and rolls waiting for us no matter what time of night we rolled in. I loved sitting in the over sized leather chair in the t.v. room and watching "The Polka Dot Door" and "Captain Kangaroo". I loved Grandma's rose scented lotion and the way her kitchen smelled after she made soft boiled raisin cookies. I loved the thin, narrow stairs that led to the AWESOME attic. I loved to play in the attic and find "treasures". I loved watching the parade from the roof of the dentist office next door and being able to wear matching cowboy hats with my cousins. I loved the walk to "Fast Eddies" to buy black licorice cigars and "Smarties" for just a couple of quarters. I loved playing with the Russian nesting dolls in Grandma's hutch and looking at Grandpa's spoon collection. I loved playing "rebound" and "shang hai". I loved the old upright piano that was always slightly out of tune. But most of all, I loved the way all of the cousins and aunts and uncles would sit around and laugh and joke with each other and the feeling of being part of something really great...my family!

Now for the other part of this blog...
July 1st is also Kamryn's birthday! She was such a beautiful baby with her silver hair and perfect pink skin. I enjoyed her mild personality and her sweet disposition from the day she was born! She has a contagious smile and the best laugh. She is witty and kind and has a great sense of humor. She has been such a great daughter and I'm so thankful that she is part of our family!

Now for your part...

I want to know what some of your favorite family memories are. What things do you remember, what things do you miss? I would love for you to post your comments and let us all share in those memories with you!

I got all choked up reading your post! I miss all those things. I also remember Grandma's pink tub, and white otter pops. I also remember watching "The Barbapapas" at Aunt Marie's house, and trips to Waterton...and don't forget Sunny Delight.

I forgot to give a shout out to Kamryn. Hey Kam, funk it up a little! We're glad you're part of our family, too! We love you.
