I think I have heard them all...
"If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something"
"If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong"
" If anything can go wrong, it will"
and..
"Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first"
I felt like I could have written my own "Murphy's Law" on Sunday night. I had done everything that I needed to do - we had been to church, I made a dessert for our monthly family birthday dinner, I had attended a youth conference planning meeting and was home in my pajamas thinking to myself..."YES! I can go to bed early tonight - I can just hang out at home and relax until bedtime" Around 10:00 p.m., one of my kids decided to grab a Popsicle out of the freezer in the garage - and it's a good thing they did! Earlier in the day, someone (who shall remain nameless) got into the freezer to grab a pizza for lunch before the big family birthday dinner and she didn't get the door shut tight when she was through. SO - at 10:00 p.m. we discovered that we had 3 bags of melted Popsicles, two boxes of soggy corns dogs, a WHOLE BUNCH of completely thawed strawberries and vegetables, and about 50 pounds of almost thawed chicken tenders. Yes...almost 50 pounds! I was mortified! I HAD to cook it and shred it and get it into some broth so that I could freeze it AGAIN!! ARGH! So - I got all 5 kids upstairs and we started boiling chicken. We got the chicken all cooked and then realized - we had no freezer bags! So I sent Brad to Albertson's and the rest of us started shredding. We FINALLY got finished right before midnight and I have to say - despite the timing - it's kind of nice to have it all done!
So...I'm not sure exactly which Murphy's Law would apply - but on Sunday at midnight it didn't matter - I was just hating Murphy!!!

Sounds like you salvaged a lot -- wow! That's a busy night. Hopefully you get your much-needed rest soon!
I totally empathize with you. Happened to me 2 weeks ago but my freezer actually stopped working all together and I didn't discover it until midnight. Luckily I didn't have 50 lbs. of chicken and I had a lot of freezer bags. That really sucks Jodi, but like you said...it's nice to have it all done I'm sure.
That stinks! Sooo.... when are you going to invite us over for chicken quesidillas?
THAT STINKS! Especially when you thought you were all settled in for the evening! The good news is that your kids were old enough to help. My kids would have the thawing chicken in the sandbox within seconds.
Jude is standing by me now, and is going crazy! First he saw Lightning McQueen and Mater - then Spiderman! He LOVES this blog!
Yikes! I hope Murphy let you sleep in the next morning. I look forward to hearing about all the things you'll be making with your chicken.
I agree Murphy really stinks!! Hopefully you get a break for awhile.
Ah, life with kids. It's a good thing we love them or we might kill them! Glad you were able to save it though!
